The best Oldhammer on the web

Hi all

I am putting together an article about Oldhammer for issue 5 of The Campaigner, and am looking for a little input.

The piece will talk about Oldhammer in general terms, what it is about, its origins, that sort of thing. But I would also like to talk about a couple of Oldhammer related websites, give readers an idea of what they are about, how they fit into the Oldhammer community and basically what makes them 'important'.

So, what two or three websites do you consider to be 'must see' Oldhammer visits, and why? These can be blogs, forums, or whatever. I don't mind shameless self promotion!

If we are including blogs and you want a bit of understanding about the time period, art, feel, and culture that produced "Oldhammer" then you have to check out http://realmofzhu.blogspot.com/

Please post a link to your article when you have it done...I'd be interested to see it.

Cheers,

The Facebook group is going great guns.

The Archive Citadel thread on Frothers....

555 pages of pure froth. But "old lead" does not equal Oldhammer...

Coops ongoing commentary on the visuals, really capturing the whole aesthetic...

On the minis and gaming front I think Gaj and Thantsants blogs are already mentioned?

My blog is bloody genius: http://realmofzhu.blogspot.co.uk/

Also for research/background have a read of this article from the BBC, note Gary Chalk's answers.

The same as others have said.

For me ... If you only read one blog it would have to be The Realm of Chaos.
Although Somewhere the teas getting cold and Eldritch Epistles are right up there.

The realm of Zhu has to get a mention for the original "Oldhammer" article.

Both Solegends and Collecting Citadel miniatures have been invaluable on the collecting Minis front.

For sheer quantity of painted oldhammer miniatures Goblin Lee's Miniatures is well worth a look.

Then there is Harry the Hammer's blog who is hammering out Oldhammer minis at an alarming rate and is the only blog to have both a Great spnined Dragon ... and The Citadel Giant on it. http://harryhowells.blogspot.co.uk/

I think it depends what you're after and how you define Oldhammer. We all seem to have our own various takes on it -

I think Zhu's original definition would be a good starting point - a way of approaching gaming using the older editions of Warhammer - narrative style gaming, game balance being unimportant, possible use of a Games master facilitate an RPG style of play and a distancing from army lists and competitive, tournament style play.

Nostalgia for 80's Citadel minis is a big thing for me and many others round here and the blogs and sites already listed are all great examples.

In terms of gaming, I'd also nominate Dreamfish and Gaj for their efforts in remote gaming and Erny for pioneering real time online gaming - even if Roll20 has a few bugs needed ironing out yet!

I also love what Mouse and Private W are doing with their blogging/gaming

Warlord Paulhas some interesting musings on gaming and the social contract it can involve.

Thanks for mentioning me in there too by the way and apologies if there's any glaring omissions in there!

Just gave it a quick read (At 2 pages, is there anything else heh) and i'm a fan of anything that promotes Oldhammer but would have liked a bit more.

Thanks for the feedback. Out of interest, in what way could the piece have been improved? More on Oldhammer history/origins, or something else?

What kind of Oldhammer content would you like to see in the publication?

Well more then 2 pages for a start, it seems it's a very short intro and then it's all about a handful of Blogs. There's nothing to get your teeth into, no key bit of writing which hooks you.
