Old school Renaissance footknight greens (more added 18/5)

For those who've become aware of my old school renaissance themed figure project, the next installment will be renaissance themed fantasy foot knights, in an old school (nineties) style, size and bulk and I wanted to show off the first start.

The talented Mick Darpa has finished the first of the body dollies, helmet blanks and weapons. The idea is to have the dollies and bits moulded and then have various different knightly orders and command sets sculpted on them. I will probably also make the body dollies available as such, for converters who want to use plastic arms and heads on them.

These are the first three. There will be more body variants (6 in all) and for those concerned about the first body not having fully armoured legs, there will be a fully armoured variant converted after moulding.

The helmets are just blanks at this point. After moulding, these will be decorated with various feathers, plumes and icons to reflect different knightly orders. The first knightly orders will likely reflect the ones I created for my Dwarf knights ("vanilla" Imperial knights, White Boar, Great Bear, Raven & skulls) though others may appear.

These are some of the weapons that will get used in the various sets. Where possible, I will try to make the weapon hand a separate part, so you can mix and match and aren't restricted to specific weapon options for specific knightly orders.

Looking good! While I'm definitely a medieval, rather than renaissance, chap... those weapons (especially the morning star and warhammer) are superb. Separate weapon packs?

Re: Old school Renaissance footknight greens WIP

I'll likely do a mixed weapon sprue as they seem too nice not to make them available for conversion purposes.

Re: Old school Renaissance footknight greens WIP

How about a separate sprue of crests?

Why are the tassets attached beneath instead of onto or abutting the fauld? I know of a three piece breastplate, parts designed to swap out for battle or tournament, with straps on the back, illustrated in Osprey's Tudor Knight, but don't know of other sources.

Will there be matching modular mounted versions and if so, what sized horse dollies will be used? I'm looking for barded horses that are smaller than GW's 1990s ones and match the current Perry plastics in size.

You mean all the same as the one pictured?

I'll be honest with you, it may be a misinterpretation of inspirational sources. As they are intended as fantasy figures (hence the liberties with the weapons), we haven't been researching this too closely.

There will be some mounted versions, though I've acquired the bodies from another sculptor and they are more comparable to GW style knights. Though I will make some changes to make them fit in well enough with these (mostly through the arms and heads). I'm afraid the horses will be heroically sized though. If you want something smaller, Pro Gloria was having a sale of their horses that they are planning to redo because they want them bigger, so you may want to take a look on their site.

Really like these.
You are pulling together quite a catalogue now....with some great stuff .... love the dwarf Knightly orders.
These are also very cool.
On the plumes I would like to see something similar ... some classic three feather crests (like the original Perry Riekguard Knights, some plumes like the Marauder Rieksguard on foot and some knightly order crests .... and I'm in!

Re: Old school Renaissance footknight greens WIP

The idea is to do something similar with these to the various dwarf knightly orders, so you should get your wish.

Re: Old school Renaissance footknight greens WIP

Metal mastercastings (and the greens) are on their way to the sculptor for converting some variants and starting on the first full figures.

Re: Old school Renaissance footknight greens WIP

Some more variant dollies for the footknights. Mick has started on the first complete figures from the previous set of bits

Re: Old school Renaissance footknight greens WIP

Mick Darpa is currently working on the first two sets of human footknights. It's going to be a while yet before all of them are done, but I couldn't resist showing of these first two complete figures:

The weapons are separate to allow for some more variation in weapons. These will all have shields too.

The final three variants of the generic footknights by Mick Darpa to make up the first set of five. The weapon hands are separate and interchangeable (sword, axe, hammer and morningstar options).

This one has vibes of the old marauder ones:

Re: Old school Renaissance footknight greens (more added 21/

They should be on their way to Pete for mastermoulding. After that they still require productionmoulding and casting, so my best guess would be late May.
