I've never painted a .... before - The Rogue Trader 100 club

Well, if Whiskey Priest could nab the idea from the Lead Adventure Forum, I can nab the idea from him! :ugeek:

A recap of how these things work:

You pick a miniature.
You paint it, but don't show any WIP images.
You post it here before anywhere else.
You number your post and the challenge stops when we reach 100.
You can participate as many times as you like, but only once per day.

The theme behind this Rogue Trader flavoured challenge is 'I've never painted a.....before'.

Pick a race/troop type/figure that would fit in the Rogue Trader universe that you've never painted before and get at it. The mini's can be from anywhere, anywhen and any manufacturer.
The only proviso is that you it is a newly painted mini and not one you've had sitting around for ages. If you are entering please post your figure in this thread first but you can link back to here from where ever you like once that's done.

Now crack on!

Well, I figured that there'd be folk breaking new painting ground for the space pirate crew, and I finished a figure last night (I'll post him in a bit when I've cropped the photo) that I realised was the first of that sort I'd ever done but was sci-fi not fantasy. Basically, I wanted a badge for my signature and setting this up seemed the only way to do it

And with absolutely no shame at double posting, here's my opener for this challenge:

001: Imperial Guardsman
Range: Metal Magic "Spacelords" - S.E.C.S. trooper C3061-3067

When the weather warms a little I'll hit him with a matt varnish to take away the ink shine, but otherwise he meets my criteria for tabletop standard; bring on the dice!

Nice one Stephen! Looks great - it's a fun range to paint!

Thanks Mattias. He ended up being a little rushed because I wanted to finish him last night, but you're right, they are enjoyable to paint. Now, what are you going to paint for this project? ;)

I've also come up with a badge that could go in the signature of participants (using a page edge logo from the RT rulebook), if they so chose, by placing the code below in their signature:

Code:

Looks great, I like how he flows together but still stays sharpe. The flesh is good without being too orange and clashing with his clothes.

Working on 2 entries now myself and both have been waiting since last BOYL for some paint heh

Considering the fact that I have never painted a single actual Rogue Trader era Citadel model I've got a lot to choose from.

#2: Hasslefree miniature

Newt, the latest addition to my Necromunda Gang. Basing not finished yet and a bit of work to do on the hair but she's nearly there. A lot of fun to paint this one.

Fimm, that pattern on her stomach is excellent, as is the blending on the jumpsuit! Her outfit does make me wonder ifany female miniature has been able to avoid a wedgy from their compulsory thong

Chico, loving the fish! Those two are on my list of "if I've been awesome" self-reward purchases. Lovely job!

Worthy badge winners, both.

I'm going to go on the theory that Spacelords is not yet taken, since you posted your boy as Imperial Guard.

No. 4 Spacelord Ship's Crew

I just painted this guy on the fourteenth with the intention of starting pretty much this thread exactly.

Having a bugger of a time photographing the fellow. I think he's a particularly lovely model. The uniform feels quite naval to me and the fellow looks very Japanese, so I've kind of run with that, going for a naval khaki effect. I'll try to post a few more pictures and a review later as I get more of the set done. Suffice it to say SP likes.

From the look on his face (nicely done, btw), he must be carrying something really important in that box. If he was in a Sean Connery film I'd swear it was nuclear launch codes

Welcome to the club, SP.

Nice one, SP!

There's no claiming - so anyone who haven't painted a spacelords mini can submit one on those grounds. I could, theoretically, also submit the above model painted in exactly the same way.

Absolutely! It's only something you've never painted before that's important, regardless of whether it's in this thread already or not.

005: Cyborg
Range: Alpha Forge - Star Moguls (I think)

Before the incident with the fungus harvester, Gregor had been regularly mocked and knocked around because of his diminutive stature. Since they rebuilt him (they had the technology!), very few dare to mess with the eight foot of servo-enhanced plasteel pit fighter and bodyguard he has become - the only thing that is short about him now is his temper...

Zlynn is a plasma engineer with experience - literally. Original he was left handed, but on a raid his gun overcooked and blew up. Zlynn lost his left eye, hand and lower leg in the explosion. Coming from the Underhive on RA161, he wasn't so easily killed and the medic-servitors patched him together with techno appendages. Since then his new gun have never overcooked, and Zlynn have become the Plasma specialist in the crew. Plasma have becomed somewhat of an obsession with Zlynn and therefor most only talk to him concerning that.
