The Lead of Winter 05/03/16

With the help of the Ansells and Wargames Foundry I put on three Warhammer 3rd edition participation games a year. The attendance is usually in the teens somewhere so we use one table and a low model count to keep things slick. We play for laughs and to tell a story (usually a comic story).

The Halloween game has been called 'Night of the Living Lead' for three years now (thanks to Erny if I recall correctly) and this year I am stretching the lead puns to the absolute limit with 'The Lead of Winter' in March and Wake the Lead in May (date TBC). If you'd like to join us or play alongside us on a table of your own get in touch either here or in the Facebook Oldhammer Community Group's Lead of Winter event.

The objective for the forthcoming Lead of Winter is for participants to provide two units for the game, one for the good guys and one for the bad guys. The narrative (details to follow) means Chaos units won't fit in but pretty much anything else goes. Units led by a champion with a name are ideal but if you have an alternative idea you would rather run with just get in touch. I'm doing a small unit of undead footknights and some Norse huscarls to oppose them. The 3rd ed main rules and the Warhammer Armies book both have useful sheets for filling out the details of a unit and will be necessary because you will be passing one of your units to the opposition to use.

The event runs from 10am to 4pm with the game starting around 11am. Food and beverages are provided throughout the day (we chip in £10 each to cover the cost to the Ansells of all the coffee, cakes and sandwiches etc.). The postcode NG23 5QF takes you straight to the venue, make sure your sat-nav has been updated in the last few years though as Newark's road system has been updated in that time.

If anyone wants to merge their own event or otherwise coordinate (I know that a BOYL 3.5 was mooted for around this time) I will respond to PMs here or on Facebook as soon as I can.

Cheers!

OK so to be clear this is a one day event, any big game that we may plan would need to be set up, played and packed away in one day.
That obviously limits what can be achieved....

You mentioned the marquees being up, would this mean the big directors tables would be available?

Re: The Lead of Winter 27/02/16

The games I plan are designed to last from about 10am to 4pm but there is no need to limit yourself to that on our account. Diane has said she is keen to expand upon what I do already and this could include 2 or 3 dayers. The main benefit to merging with the Lead of Winter is that about 15 of us will already be there to socialise with, and the odd special guest makes an appearance too of course. The whole thing will take on the air of a mini-BOYL hopefully.

In short, if there is a call for an all-weekend game that can easily be arranged. If not, our time frame of 10am to 4pm needn't be adhered to either as we stay much later to shop, chat and socialise anyway.

The marquee and the big tables that we have at BOYL can easily be arranged as needed for our convenience, we just have to make our requests known in advance. :)

I guess marquees depend on numbers coming. I imagine it isn't cheap to have and is only really viable if enough people come and browse the foundry's shop!

OK I'll put out feelers for who is still interested in a potential big table groaner of a game over two days and see who'd be up for a weekend away. Lenihan has said he's interested and would spread the word on Facebook. Once we have a clear idea on numbers I'll let you know so it can be run past Diane.

I spoke to Diane again today and agreed to push the date back a week to the 5th of March to suit our hosts. Apologies for any inconvenience.

I checked and if required, the Sunday is available too.
