I'm planning to be available all weekend, kicking off on Friday afternoon and finishing on Sunday afternoon - I wait to be told by Erny, if that needs to change!

Right then, I think we have a few saying they could manage a weekend so a big game is quite possible, one day events in Newark have a limit on the size we can reach given traveling and set up time. If we can get Friday to Sunday from most people then I propose we set up Friday afternoon/evening, play most of Saturday, finish up any remaining struggles in the morning of Sunday to be packed and away by the afternoon. This means anyone arriving for just the Saturday could easily bring a less committed allied force that arrives late and leaves early.

Ideally I'd like to see the table groan with old lead and awesome terrain. We had lots of great ideas on the past thread but here I think we need to be certain what people will be bringing before we write any narrative.

For my part I have the following already painted that I could bring:

Large orc army 3000pts plus
dark elf army 3000pts
undead army 3000pts plus
Khornate chaos army 3000pts
Slaaneshi chaos army 2000pts

Empire army 3000pts plus
Dwarf army 3000pts plus
Wood elf army 3000pts plus
High/sea elf contingent 1000pts

Terrain wise I have some big green cloths, hills trees, roads and rivers. A sizable village, rocky terrain, old temples standard stuff. I do also have a very large castles worth of mighty fortress but I'm not proposing a siege.

I'm not suggesting I bring all of it but if we know what people could or would like to bring then we can better organise what we want to do with it all.

Some people mentioned doing a side quest using AHQ for those who don't like big battles but wanted to be involved in another way. Please do let me know if your interesting in doing or running this. Lastly please let the FB group know so anyone interested can get back to us here.

If we get enough official yep I'm coming and bringing X, then we'll let WP know.

I`m happy to bring what fits best with the plan figure wise, i have huge O and G, Undead and Chaos forces as well as smaller contingents of other evil guys but it would be good to know what to bring well in advance so that i can use my painting time to supplement that particular force. i plan to only attend for the one day but can be on site early and play as late as required.

Erny,

Are we running with the game based on the stories of Morcar (Have I got that right?), or, are we running with a general story of Evil guys opening a portal to commune with their God/patron - to let something in or out; with the Good guys trying to stop, whatever - it is; with the boys & girls of Chaos looking on or trying to subvert the Evil guys plans and the Naturals aiming the keep everything in balance :?: :?: :?: Which all gives us - really big canvas for how we want to play this, but mostly have fun.

I've not heard/seen anything since the last posts in November pushing this forward; so had assumed that the impetus to put on a large game - had lost heart, it might change into something else or re-emerge ?

Thus, I wait, biding my time, seeking a sign of inspiration, before gathering my minions to march once more, ;) across a tabletop! (Sorry got a bit whimsical there  )

There is an oldhammer game at the Foundry on 5 March: "The Lead of Winter", and nothing to stop other people either joining in with that game or putting on other games. The more the merrier!

I will check with the boys and see if we can do the 5th March.

We could still do this .... We have a working title of "Coldhammer ... Oldhammer in the frozen city" Seems to fit with the whole "Lead of Winter" theme.

GROG (Gloucestershire Retro and Oldhammer Gamers) ... OK ... me, Chris and Geoff
Were talking about a winter themed game for the next BOYL This would seem like a better time of the year for such a game. I shall see how they are fixed for this weekend.
Maybe we can run that game? It would be a bit like the the boats .... (bring a boat or turn up with nothing grab a spare boat and join in .... except this would be small warbands instead of boats/crews)

What is the current planned game .... Armies? Scenery? Backstory? .... we could tie our game into the bigger story.

I'll copy/past Orlygg's narrative for the game:

Far Corfe was once a thriving economic centre with a wealthy and tasteful artisan class keen to patronise the arts. The key to their success? The humble wool trade. The lolling, grassy hills that surround the town could easily sustain thousands of sheep and the countryside was once awash with numerous little farmsteads specialising in this area. The town's location, built on a crossroads to Altdorf, Erzstadt and Middenheim, also helped, as it was easy to transport goods to and from the rivers that were the pathways of the Empire.

But the town has been in decline for over eighty years. New markets and cheaper produce from Kislev reduced the profitability of wool and though still worthwhile, the industry is not what it was. Nowadays, if you ask the average peasant in the street across the Old World about Far Corfe, they would probably speak about the 'Grand Recreation' rather than its former role as the hub of the wool trade.

Some two hundred years ago, the chief of the Airyaxe Wound tribe, Todge-Dropper the Terrible, unleashed a swarm of orc and goblin raiders against the defences of Far Corfe. Legend said that the previous winter had been so harsh in their mountain fastness, that even the warmest undergarments could do little to ward off the evils of frostbite. Swearing appalling oaths of violence on the altar of Mork, Todge-Dropper set out to destroy Far Corfe and claim their enormous stores of warm, fluffy wool for himself.

As all schoolboy students of history can tell you, Todge-Dropper was defeated and Far Corfe was saved in once of the most remarkable battles in history. Due to a series of remarkable coincidences, field armies of men, dwarfs, gnomes, halflings, wood, sea and high elves were all in the immediate area when Todge-Dropper launched his poorly timed assault.

Dick Fitz Inwell, leader of the Far Corfe militia, couldn't believe his eyes when rank after rank of elite fighting men marched up the road towards the townwalls within hours of him sending out the call to arms. Bjorn Whiffabigun, the dwarf mercenary captain was the first to arrive. Swiftly followed by a combined elvish force lead by the sorceress Pyria Sweetcherry. Their timely arrival meant that Todge-Dropper's vanguard were beaten back and Far Corfe was able to re-enforce itself considerably. Eventually, Todge-Dropper's forces were crushed on the wooden walls of the town, though the orc leader's body was never found.

So remarkable was the victory, that the nations of those involved continued to celebrate it years after the final survivor had died. Every ten years, hundreds of warriors would arrive in the town, from all over the Old World, for a week long festival of feasting and re-enactment. Local tribesmen were employed to dress up as Todge-Dropper's legions and a 'Grand Recreation' was fought (using safety weapons) to the delight of the adoring crowds.

Since the town's decline, the Recreation has become less and less well attended. Though all of the nations involved still send token units of troops. Interest in the spectacle is waning. Mayor Haywood Jablomi, the current ruler of the town, is now faced with being the last leader to organise the event. This year's low key celebration will be the last of the 'Recreations'.

But unbeknown to Jablomi, or the crowds that are forming inside the town, this year's event is soon to spiral out of control. For the winter has been long and harsh....

And something is coming...

The idea for his game is that each person brings two units (one for each side) of equal points cost, and then it's randomly determined which units you take charge of (so probably not your the ones you've brought). I daresay there's something you could come up with which might tie into the bigger narrative of the story but not be doing the same thing as his idea?

A long game at my house

As the planned BIG GAME for 2016 appears to fallen to the wayside and the wife & kids are doing their own thing on the 19-20th March, leaving me at home for seventy two hours to do pretty much what I like!

I'm organizing a reasonably large game at my house over the course of the weekend, with fellow enthusiasts from across the south of England, of those who can dropping in and out of the game, as it fits in with their weekend. If, you think you'd like to join-in this jolly little gathering – you can see where I'm based under my avatar, and if, I'm not too far away and you want to join-in or simply introduce yourself, just P.M. me and I'll provide directions etc.

All terrain & miniatures will be provided, all you have to provide is yourself with a tape measure, a set of Warhammer 3rd edition rules (not compulsory) and a sense of fun and enthusiasm to play the game!

The general scenario:

A powerful mage has been called the commune with his overlord, hence he's left his sanctuary with a small select band of servants, followers, slaves, thugs, warriors, beasts & general hangers-on, which is occasionally being escorted by a very loose alliance of orcs, goblins, chaotic' s and barbarians - who the mage has 'helped' in the past, or, who are just plain scared of him, to the alter. Where a suitable offerings have been provided by a local tribe, to initiate the dialogue with the overlord, after being prompted by one of the mages servants!

The offerings were taken from a large group of noble travelers, who have dispatched a select band of talented gentlemen & ladies and their immediate entourage to find the lost items.

News of an assembly of some kind along their border has reached Brettonia, thus a force of Brettonians has been given the errand - of finding out what is actually happening and if possible - stop any possible incursions (real or otherwise) into their sphere of influence.

The Brettonians have not been discreet in their preparations and a war band of Dark Elves are tentatively trailing their column in the hope of taking advantage of the situation.

Please note, these are the borderlands and there are other things lingering in these places than those listed above!

So, there you have it - plenty of scope for doing heroic or dastardly deeds in what I hope will be enjoyable company.

Sorry to hear it's too far for you to make it, I'll try to make the report as interesting as possible with lots of pictures. On that front lets give you a slight hint of what will be happening - here's a few pictures of my barbarian types, which I've just re-based and some WIP to join them and the War Mammoth, in hope I can inspire a few closer to home to come and join-in?

Various different manufacturers - Foundry, Newline etc etc.

Such is life Harry, I was hoping that you, Chris & Geoff (I assume they won't be available either?) were going to take the parts of the Barbarians, rescue party & escorts, pity as I was hoping to talk to Geoff about Devizes and try to talk you & Chris into joining-in too. Hopefully, we'll meet up soon?

Right Ladies & Gentlemen, I'm looking for at least three players for Saturday - anybody up for showing the representatives of my local clubs what Oldhammer is about?

In hope
